Thoughts on Humor

I think to understand my very specific relationship to humor it's important to understand that I take everything extremely seriously but simply often prefer to do so in a less grim fashion because it makes it easier for me to think about it at all.  I often hesitate to classify my stories as humor (though they could at times easily be placed in such a category) because I often avoid stories classified in that genre myself.  One of the few forms of humor I tend to enjoy is satire, but this was not a form of humor I had much exposure to as a child, leading me to believe for a long time that I just didn't have a sense of humor.  The truth is, I strongly dislike a lot of humor.  I think one reason for that is that I dislike the 'it's just a joke' mentality, and other efforts that attempt to divorce humor of meaning or greater significance.  I guess that this is all to say that I take my humor very seriously, haha.
