Twitter now requires an account to view tweets

Wow, now I can't even check if my my deactivated account is actually deleted after 30 days. I can't try to log into the deactivated account, because if I do, that risks activating it if it hasn't been deleted. And the only way to avoid being subject to Musk's social media whims is to avoid Twitter entirely. Which I can't do if I create a new Twitter account just to check that or read tweets. I think one possible reason they might have decided to do this is so they can inflate signups to create the appearance of increased interest in Twitter in order to placate shareholders.  So obviously I don't want to help them with that in any way, lol.

Though for people who need Twitter for one reason or another, I heavily encourage the malicious compliance route: do the minimum required to keep an account, and don't contribute to the site's siloing of useful or interesting information.

Of course, they might also backtrack on this shortly, but regardless, there's no transparency or reliability in Twitter's interface or policy any longer.  Its only purpose is to treat you like trash and expect you to reward them by keeping their site relevant and paying them for the privilege of this mistreatment.
