Covid-19 Thoughts

So far over 520,000 people have died from covid in the US. I get so upset reading about how slow the vaccine rollout is, and how wasteful it's been.  I also wonder how long the vaccines will confer protection?  Obviously there's been no long-term tests of their effectiveness yet, and due to pharmaceutical companies being absolutely evil, there's had to be a whole bunch of different ones developed, with varying testing and effectiveness rates.  It sounds like most of them are quite good at preventing the people who get them from dying of covid, so that's promising, but there's just so many variables and unknowns and I don't like it.  I hope the more optimistic estimates for these things are right, but unfortunately my pessimism has been right about too many things to assume they are.  It's also terrible that countries like the US and corporations like Pfizer keep trying to prevent other countries from getting the vaccine or trying to strong-arm them to do what they say in order to get access to it.
