Cleaning Difficult to Remove Pan Stains With Baking Soda

Baking soda is so useful.  Was washing dishes today and one of my pans had burned oil in the bottom of the pan.  While I had made an attempt to remove it by scrubbing alone, this was not adequate. So I put some water and enough baking soda to cover the bottom of the pan and cooked it on medium heat about 20 minutes until it was boiling.  Then I put it in the sink, cooled it off a bit, and scrubbed with the sponge.  Had to repeat that one more time, but was able to get the burned oil off.

This topic reminded me of the segment of an Anne Readon/How to Cook That video reviewing various methods for reviving stains from pans. (this video starting at about 14:00) Although she doesn't do the baking soda boil, which I have done before.
