What I enjoy most about this cover, though, is its composition. Plagueis appears behind Palpatine and above him, colored in red and with the signature yellow Sith eyes. The background of his 'robes' is a red tinted rendition of space with stars and planets. The outline of his robes also double's as Palpatine's chair, with the characteristic shape of the Emperor's chair in Return of the Jedi. This is just a really creative composition and just captures the essence of what this novel is to me really well.

Kel! Kel! (someone reminded me that black and gold are faction colors in Machineries of Empire and so instead of the "ugh Hufflepuff" reactions I keep seeing I have really gone off on thoughts of um ... revenant, Kel-seconded Palpatine. in fingerless gloves! crashhawk. (who is maybe actually a fox but... maybe not. ...secret seventh [Sith] faction maintained? spider!?)I feel like everyone's piling on the "why did they make him brunette here?!" bandwagon but like... I'm going "you mean you can tell the intended hair color in this lighting?"
also kinda intrigued about the underneckline that's visibleāit shouldn't surprise me but some things about SW feel very Western and I feel like you don't see that construction much in formal under layers in Euro-American fashions.
oh and this speaks to how little much visual language sticks in my head but trying to think about this as a throne with younger Palpatine and the Plagueis background has made me (sorta) see the TOS Captain's chair somehow š¤¦no subject
And I agree, I actually think his hair looks red in that image, but then hair color is one of those things people seem notoriously prone to disagreement on! I think that given the other colors in the picture, that part needed to be made darker, and due to the bright red in the background, it needed to be desaturated somewhat to contrast. But I still think it looks red!
Also, because I interpret the colors for Palpatine as desaturated, I see dark and light blue with yellow instead of black and grey, but I can totally see why people could be seeing black instead of dark blue. Either way, it's a great new outfit that I can imagine Ambassador Palpatine wearing. Perhaps I will even put it in my fic. And thanks for pointing out the intriguing neckline design!
Your Star Trek mention got me thinking of Palpatine and Plagueis in a Star Trek Starfleet ship and my mind immediately went to the absolute mayhem that would result haha.
