Star Wars Redemption Rares
Sep. 17th, 2021 01:24 amThis is not something I think I would be able to organize, but I think it would be cool if there was an exchange for rare Star Wars character redemptions, kind of like how there's one for rarepairs. The core rules would be something that rules out any characters who get a canon redemption and rules out any characters who are not villains in the canon. The canon redemption thing removes the necessity for counting, because though it's possible not all non-canon redemptions are rare, I get the impression that the canon redemptions are much more commonly echoed in fanfiction than the non-canon ones. Though perhaps it could instead be called 'Non-Canon Redemptions' just so there's less of an expectation that counting be involved. Because who wants to count all that? Pairings are hard enough to count, so I think counting redemption fics would definitely be worse.
I think it would also be necessary to enumerate which villains would not qualify since people would probably otherwise try to argue their case for villains who do have plenty of redemption fic written for them. So, the list of who would NOT qualify would be:
Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker
Kylo Ren/Ben Solo
Ventress
Kallus
That's all the villains I can think of who get canon redemptions. Not going to argue the quality of the redemption, just going to outright say that the narrative gives these particular villains a redemption arc. Probably there should also be some acknowledgement for how to handle characters who don't easily slot into one category or the other as heroes or villains, but I think the above suffices as a general outline for what I'm getting at.
