I think this collapse of Reddit, which is a site that I've seen numerous people say they consider an essential information resource, underlines the importance of decentralization to me. Maybe I should do my next philosophical essay for my New Old Web site on why I consider decentralization an essential part of a healthy web.
Could also maybe post some pointers in HOWTOs for how people can make their own web experience less centralized. I know that in my case, I try to avoid relying on any one single source too extensively for information, entertainment, or anything else, because I do see the dangers of centralization and the losses it makes us vulnerable to.
There are obviously advantages of using centralized sites but they should not be overly relied upon. There has to be some thought put into the tradeoffs involved.
