Tortoise-ing
Sep. 24th, 2021 01:17 amI can be incredibly efficient sometimes, but I think those times happen more now that I understand much better just how much I need to avoid pushing myself too hard if I can. I know from experience the kind of long-term damage burnout can have on my ability to get anything done to any degree of competency, so as annoying as it can be to contend with my own limitations, I know being patient with myself is going to get me where I want to go faster than trying to push myself to the maximum and ignoring the warning signs. So I do whatever I can to avoid pushing myself any further than I have to, even if what I can reasonably handle sometimes seems pretty limited.
Insert tortoise and hare allegory here. We'd all like if we could move at the frantic pace of the hare the entire time, but sometimes it's just not maintainable and we're better off tortoise-ing our way through life.
