Got a fresh batch of walnuts recently. I love walnuts, unfortunately they are very prone to going rancid quickly if you just leave them in the pantry. And rancid walnuts are really the worst. Like eating paint thinner. Which is why it's a good idea to refrigerate or even freeze them if you don't plan to eat them all right away.
And I'm talking here about walnuts that have had their shells removed. Walnuts without their shells removed can last longer, but may also be more susceptible to molding.
