I finished Thrawn: Alliances just now.  So far the new Thrawn series has been pretty solid.  I have my complaints but there's actually a lot of interesting things to think about beyond just whatever mystery the book sets up (though it does a fair job with that as well).  Having read a number of his books, including ones outside his Star Wars novels, I think Zahn's a decent writer overall, but I've also seen him produce some less than inspired content.  Fortunately, the new Thrawn series are some of his better ones.  Though the writing style of these seems a bit jarring to me compared to what I remember from his other works.  I do like the content a lot overall, though.

Ahhhhh, I'd love to hear your thoughts about Thrawn: Alliances! I had a lot of feelings reading the novel, especially about Thrawn being caught between these divided loyalties and being a sort of galactic version of the spy caught out in the cold and I have to like, restrain myself from spewing them at people every now and then haha.
