Darth Maul AU Idea

unspeakablehorrorClone Wars Maul! Clone Wars Maul! No, I still haven't seen Season 7 of The Clone Wars but obviously I've seen spoilers on social media, and I'm looking forward to when I can see the whole thing without paying Disney a dime for that haha.
Also, had some thoughts about a Maul in the Rebels era AU:
What if Maul actually did succeed in what he came to Tatooine for and ended up training Luke in the Force? Like, Old Ben just disappears one day (sorry Obi-Wan, but that's *also* what "Maul succeeds" means in this context!) and Luke encounters this enigmatic zabrak living in his hut and when he asks about Old Ben, Maul just says he died and vaguely states that he 'knew him well' and Luke assumes this means they were friends, and Maul just...doesn't correct him. And Maul just decides to bide his time and play the 'entertainingly eccentric hermit' role until the right opportunity arises.
What I'm saying is...A New Hope, but Maul replaces Obi-Wan and takes on the old mentor role but...he's Maul, so that works out differently of course, haha. I'd have to think about what kind of direction I'd want to take this story in, but I do think it could be a pretty fun and interesting idea to flesh out if I ever get around to it.
