My Feelings About A Certain Part of Darth Bane, Book 3 (major spoilers)
Part of this might be my own assumptions that are perhaps not so common, even though I also wouldn't be surprised if they were common, and I do think this possibility was likely an intentional red-herring. But I had assumed, even though I'd already been spoiled on the basics of the ending, that Serra was the one who would become Darth Cognus.
Which if I had better recalled the Wookiepedia article about Cognus, I would have realized was not possible since she's an iktochi, and Serra is human.
And while I maintain that could have been an interesting path to explore, I actually do really appreciate the one that was chosen. The one that blends the tragedy of the prequels with Luke's defiance against the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. But in a way that actually resonates more with me on a personal level because it doesn't serve to glorify the Jedi.
Because Serra falters and falls so far and Serra ultimately fails, but she also says:
You will not turn me, for I am a healer, like my father before me.
And she goes to her end in defiance.
