Some Musings on Longfic

One of the things that makes writing a longer story difficult is the knowledge that no matter what you choose to do, you're going to winnow away some of the people who were enjoying your story because you eventually made narrative choices they didn't personally like. This is why I always think really hard about how *I* feel about my story choices, because I know I can't assume other people aren't eventually going to tire of my stories or even just not be able to deal with my ridiculously erratic posting schedules, and I couldn't sustain something that I'm not enjoying anyway. At the same time, anything I post is not just for me, and I do hope there will be other people who enjoy it, so I make more of an effort to write something that will be understandable to other people and to try to accomodate what other people want as long as I can still enjoy the story too.
