I think the reason I like villains so much is because I think mainstream media pushes some rather questionable ideals like ambition being bad and wrong, disrupting the status quo as the ultimate evil (how many story plots end with the hero triumphantly restoring things to ‘how they used to be’ before the evil villain came around), having to forgive people if you don’t want to be an evil or broken person, etc. etc. ad nauseum. And I mean, I understand where all the above is coming from, but I disagree on a fundamental level with all of it. So often I have to overcome my dislike of these ideals being pushed on the hero to actually like them. Ahsoka is a rare departure from this since she breaks with at least one of the major values listed above (ie. restoring things to the status quo, since she actively chooses to leave the Jedi Order, and is never depicted as being bad or wrong for doing so).
Of course, the other thing I enjoy about villains is that they can be quite petty, and I find that very–relateable.
Tags: villains, meta, that last one is really important, like beyond all my silly moralizing, sometimes it's just about enjoying the flagrant pettiness, star wars mention, ahsoka mention,
