I have a very viscerally negative reaction to people engaging in Republican apologism, talking about a Republican as 'one of the good ones', or worse, talking about voting for Republicans today, in 2024, for any reason, regardless of whether the Republicans in question are Trump or MAGA-style Republicans or not. I don't want to hear people talk about how much more 'respectable' the party was under Bush or Reagan. So while I accept that I live in a hyperconservative era and this is one of the many evils that large swaths of ordinary people engage in, I find this kind of behavior extremely alienating and I have blocked people for being belligerant or insistent about this regardless of how well or how long I've known them.
I'm not going to judge people for conservative beliefs they no longer hold. But engaging in any kind of Republican cheerleading to me is very much shoving one's current support of conservatives in my face. So don't be surprised if I, a leftist, block for that when any objections I voice to it are inevitably dismissed and ignored.

Date: 2024-04-04 05:26 pm (UTC)Despite believing in the necessity of revolution, I very much do not believe in The Revolution and my experiences with those types has caused me to distrust them enormously.
But they have not been the source of this particular kind of violent ideology in my life, and I view this particular kind of ideology as worse, actually. It's also accelerationism after all, just instead with the genuine belief that it is not, that the real threat is people like me, and not the friendly Republican-down-the-street who believes we need to create more jobs by cutting those pesky environmental and safety regulations and by closing the border because the call definitely isn't coming from inside the house in regards to who is actually threatening the safety of all of us. After all, they may not agree with that friendly Republican, but at least that Republican believes in working within the system. And that's why, when it comes down to it, they will always side with the Republican over me.
