Episode IX Palpatine Questions

unspeakablehorrorSo, Palpatine is back for Episode IX! I'm very excited! But I have questions!
Such as, in what way will he return? While it does seem that he's definitively back, I don't yet see any confirmation that it's because he's alive. That doesn't necessarily mean he won't be an antagonist. He could be a Force Ghost and if Yoda could summon lightning as a Force Ghost, well, he probably could too. Maybe he's haunting the Death Star ruins shown in the trailer.
Of course, maybe he is alive. Maybe he will come back to life, or maybe he's never been dead. Though if he never died, that does create the question of why he never contacted anyone in the Empire to come...pick him up. And instead just chilled on Endor for like 30+ years haha. And answering questions like that doesn't seem to be the sequel trilogy's strong suit. Not that I would necessarily require such an explanation. Though if he did die and needs some catalyst to bring him back to life, they wouldn't need to explain that.
It's even possible that he will only appear as a hologram or flashback or one of those contingency droids. As far as I can tell, they never explicitly say his reappearance isn't due to a more minor reason like this, and it would still be of interest to me as it would be new Palpatine content. But it's obviously less exciting than an alternative where he directly appears, either alive or as a Force Ghost, as a major antagonist and I'm not sure why they would hype it up as much as they are if this was the case.
