One possibility for how Palpatine comes back would be some kind of weird time travel thing.  I would hate that, because I hate time travel (even if a number of my favorite stories are centered around it--it's complicated, okay?).  Hmmm, also I'll speculate they have him played by Matt Smith and just steal whatever costume he used on the Dr. Who set as some kind of bad fourth-wall joke about the time travel thing.  Oh no, this one might actually have a chance of coming true in part--I'm terrified haha.

The Time Lord robes are definitely the kind of thing I could envision Palpatine wearing.

Given your screenshots, I'm going to additionally speculate that Matt Smith and Jodie Whittaker will be two Palpatine clones who fight over who gets the bow tie (whoever gets the bow tie inexplicably wins and becomes Emperor).

Oh man. Your fear is my fear, though wrt Matt Smith at least the rumour on MSW is that he's playing another sith entirely which is... a whole other can of worms I don't even want to think about.

Haha, yeah, I just feel like he could definitely be in the movie despite his denial of that--denials don't really seem to mean much in Hollywood.

If he is playing another Sith, that would be weird, too. Like, where are all these Sith coming from if so, haha? Is Palpatine going to drop by and say 'Hey, look, I got myself a new Apprentice! This one does time travel!'

Ha, I thought they'd more or less confirmed his involvement with like, Disney's Czech and Polish sites confirming him as part of the cast?

Also LOL! I mean, I'd feel more enthused about Episode IX if I knew that it was Palps but Pinky & The Brain style and this time, he absolutely is going to take over the galaxy with his new Time-Travelling Apprentice :P

Yeah, I took a look at those links but he wasn't listed there when I checked. Nevertheless, I agree that is a really strong indicator that he's in the movie--it's just no longer possible to confirm. I'm guessing Disney had them take the info down once they noticed the leak.

And yeah, time-travelling Siths (they use that Death Star hunk as their time-machine) are certainly more amusing than a number of possibilities I can imagine they might implement.

Also I have seen the rumor you mentioned and that definitely falls into my 'burn it with fire' category haha! Oh, there's just such a variety of horrific possibilities!
