Thoughts on Elevating Individuals Above Their Ideals

Idolizing people causes problems, whether it's celebrities or activists or political figures.  And whenever we put people on a pedestal, even if it's for the right reasons, we elevate them at the expense of their message, and at the expense of the other people they care about.  We show that it matters less what they said and more that they were the one to say it. And if they really are the good people that we believe them to be, they won't want that.
