Freeze-Dried Apples
May. 17th, 2022 12:01 amA while back I bought some freeze-dried apple slices so I would have some freeze-dried fruit. I didn't use them for a long time, though, and mostly just forgot about them. I just opened them recently and am really enjoying them in oatmeal. I like to break the slices into pieces so they will rehydrate more easily, and throw them in the oatmeal. Some freeze-dried fruit is pretty flavorless but these freeze-dried apples are pretty flavorful. And because apples are a particularly sweet fruit, they still retain a lot of sweetness.
Also just checked when I bought them and apparently that was in April of 2020? So that was a pretty long time ago. And if anything is going to last a long time, it's going to be an unopened container of freeze-dried food, but this definitely reinforces why I like dried foods. They usually do not last forever, but they can still last a very long time and aren't limited to being stored in a refrigerator or freezer where space will be much more of an issue. They can be stored anywhere you have space to put them.
