Interpretation and Fiction
Jul. 12th, 2020 07:31 pmTo me, one of the biggest differences between fiction and reality is that contradictory interpretations of fiction can make sense. I don't think *any* interpretation of fiction makes sense, but it still has a malleability that reality does not. In fact, I think a lot of the nonsensical interpretations of fiction are a result, not of misinterpreting fiction, but of misunderstanding some portion of the reality they are relating it to. The fact of the matter is that there are so many different experiences in the world, and when we interpret a work, we bring the context of those experiences into that interpretation. It's even possible for one person to interpret the same work in more than one way, depending on what aspects of their own experiences they choose to incorporate in their interpretation.
