Loftwings and Demons

One of my pet peeves is 'we should put aside our politics to [make societal change]'.  Societal changes are...inherently political.  Any time someone thinks society should do something, that's political.  

My annoyance also goes up even more when it's a politician doing this.

Just in general the idea that politics only involves societal behavior that the person doesn't like rather than any statement about how society should orient itself, regardless of how good or obvious or urgent that statement is judged to be, just really annoys me.
