Rey's Grandmothers

I for one was disappointed that Word of God decided Rey didn't have a grandmother.  This is mitigated, however, by the fact that such a claim is ridiculous and I don't consider Word of God canon.  Even so, it's still quite unacceptable.  So I have decided that in fact she has three.  Firstly, there is her maternal grandmother.  Even if Palps Jr didn't have a grandmother, her mother would have, lol.  That's just, like, basic genealogy.  Secondly, since Palps Jr. doesn't really look much like Palpatine, I'm going to say that while he was created with the aid of Kaminoan cloning technology, he was not actually a clone.  Palpatine wanted to create a son with great Force power, so he chose to use DNA from the three most powerful Force sensitives he knew of: himself, Shmi Skywalker, and (his ex) Mother Talzin.  Shmi Skywalker, unbeknowest to the Jedi, was actually an even more powerful Force sensitive than Anakin, and in fact Anakin's existence was actually due to a combination of her desire for a child and her natural ability to use the Force to create life.  Palpatine spliced together the DNA in a modified Kaminoan cloning cylinder to create a literal designer baby, though because he had not payed enough attention to Plagueis's 'How to Create Unnatural Force Babies with Science!' class, he messed up and the unlimited power Force powers he expected the baby to have ended up skipping a generation.

i have this AU I need to finish another part of but er...

anyway my Rey in that doesn't have three grandmothers, or actually any that would, practically, be potentially involved in her life, but she did incidentally end up with up to three mothers/mother figures: her dad's partner, her biological mom, and her dad's rival almost-sister* who is also her bio mom's would-be paramour.

(*They are a sort of secondary heir candidates and yes. they had mothers. They were also removed from their homes not solely because Palpatine coveted them and might *cough* it's ambiguous *cough* have been orphaned, so their mothers are off the table; the circumstances leading to Rey's adoption were not conducive to a relationship with her biological grandparents and uh something something her dad's partner's/actual "Mom"'s mother is pretty far away and doesn't travel much)

AU (although if I say headcanon accepted it will only be with the stipulation of a plurality of them

Yeah, I am quite occupied with my current epics haha. I've always planned for Shmi to have a subplot in Heart of Shadow, though. Won't say what she'll be doing, but I have some ideas!

I have to say that I'd be really interested in exploring what it would mean for Rey to be a Palpatine in much more detail than TROS did. Like, I don't think there was never even a convo about it between Finn, Poe, and Rey (unless it was one of the many parts I didn't catch). And she didn't have near enough of a reaction to the reveal. Like Luke went ballistic when he found out his father was Vader. But Rey learning about her family background and her encounter with Palpatine in the movie just has such an emotional gap. It's especially glaring because family has meant so much to her that it defies belief that she'd have so little reaction to that scenario.

Also, yeah, I definitely think that's the kind of class Plagueis would have haha.
