Yay, "Elective" Surgery!

So, I have been strongly recommended to get surgery for the now not so mysterious health issue.  And I am planning to do that.  Very unexcited about the thought, though.  I have a phobia of general anesthesia and, oh, also of pain, which I expect to be a prominent feature of the recovery period.

All my previous surgeries have been things I was comfortable getting local anesthesia for, but while it's technically possible to get local anesthesia for most surgeries (I once read an article about someone who got it for open heart surgery), I don't think I much care for the idea of that in this case either.
