So I've been looking at resources online to prepare for surgery, and one of the things I've seen suggested more than once is to find something sedentary to entertain you while you recover.  I also personally found that helpful during one of my more minor surgeries.  Looking for something long (like a novel series or tv series), that's sci-fi or fantasy and not too mentally taxing.  Have considered having a Star Wars + Star Trek marathon of things I've seen/read and things I haven't seen/read (I might be willing to rewatch/reread things, but in general I do tend to seek out the novelty of new media).  I'm sure I'll find other things to keep me occupied too, but suggestions are welcome.  Also, if the protagonist has to endure agonizing pain but still manages to endure, that's a plus, though not strictly necessary.

Suggestions for nonfiction entertainment about science or random interesting things are also welcome.  I'm especially interested in animals, plants, and space.

Might be a while before I actually get my "elective" surgery, so I have plenty of time to overthink that.  Huzzah. Included in my totally-overthinking-this-spree is trying to decide which is worse, logging out of social media before I go into surgery and putting my password information for it somewhere out of the way so I won't be able to go on here until I'm feeling a bit better, but then suffering from a dreadful case of FOMO (fear of missing out), or letting myself go on social media and having to immediately scream, but softly like a pathetically dying animal because of the pain, every time someone is Wrong On The Internet and/or embarrassing myself by posting while I am still On So Many Drugs.

So, I have been strongly recommended to get surgery for the now not so mysterious health issue.  And I am planning to do that.  Very unexcited about the thought, though.  I have a phobia of general anesthesia and, oh, also of pain, which I expect to be a prominent feature of the recovery period.

All my previous surgeries have been things I was comfortable getting local anesthesia for, but while it's technically possible to get local anesthesia for most surgeries (I once read an article about someone who got it for open heart surgery), I don't think I much care for the idea of that in this case either.
