Fiddlehead Ferns

Tried fiddlehead ferns for the first time tonight and thought they were tasty. I ate them after blanching them as instructed. 

Got a little carried away though and ate all of them. Maybe next time I'll have enough restraint to save them for a dish.

oooh. my dad likes fiddleheads but they're really hard to get around here.

My understanding is that they are very seasonal and don't have much if any availability outside a certain season. This is the first time I've had them, and I only recall seeing them maybe a couple times before that, so they also seem to not be very widespread.

yeah that's very true. but they're also easier to find in some places than others, because of climate conditions etc

Oh, I agree. I probably should have emphasized that more, since location tends to be much more important for fresh produce availability than it is for many other things.

Are there any particular recipes your Dad or you like fiddleheads in?

I'll ask him for fiddlehead recipes sometime. Mostly as far as I know he just fries them in a spice base, like one does for ginger beans.
