I love spices. Definitely love adding spices to my spice collection. Have been learning about all the different varieties of spices made from peppers since it's really only been the last few years where I developed a taste for spicy peppers, and I've started to encounter more and more recipes where I don't have the particular variety of spice they call for because of that.
Habaneros!
Oct. 12th, 2021 08:05 pmMe in 2019: I don't really cook with any peppers spicier than jalepenos, and I rarely cook with peppers at all.
Me now: bring on the habaneros!
I've now made habanero pinto bean chili and habanero salsa, and they were both pretty good. I've tried a lot of different kind of peppers now, and the spice level has been edging up. Hopefully I don't end up regretting that haha. I haven't so far, at least. I do make extra sure that I'm wearing gloves when I slice the habaneros, though. My experiences with jalapenos have taught me to take that very seriously.

Chili with Jalepenos and Chile de Arbol
Jul. 15th, 2021 11:53 pmI only had two small fresh jalapenos when I made my pinto bean chili yesterday, so I added a couple dried chile de arbol (which I tore into pieces and rehydrated), which seems like it went a long way to giving my chili a more noticeable spice level. I really don't think the jalapenos by themselves would have given anywhere near the same effect.
