If a tv or movie series gets new shows or movies released that are awful and completely at odds with the rest of the series, I don't think "oh now the entire series is ruined", I think "isn't it great that I can decide that none of this new nonsense ever happened, because this is fiction so whatever I decide can just replace canon whenever I want". Makes things a lot less stressful for me. And if there's a bit here or there that I actually like? Sure, that part happened--none of the rest of it did, though. What do you mean, I can't do that? I'll do whatever I want. I just added a dog with a jetpack now. You can't stop me.

Just enjoying listening to the Latin American dub of Andor.  This is not only good Spanish practice for me, but is also the objectively best dub of the show because Diego Luna still does Cassian's voice in it.  He doesn't do Cassian's voice in the Castilian version, though, hence why I specifically referenced the Latin American Spanish dub.

Highly recommend watching the post-credits scene of the finale.

Now, please excuse me while I go absolutely unhinged for a while...

Andor

I've watched all of the 8 episodes of Andor currently available in two days and now I have a new Star Wars obsession.  Andor shows such a deep understanding of what came before in how it portrays the details of its worldbuilding, while at the same time deftly incorporating new and fresh ones.  While I am disappointed about Andor's Separatist past having (apparently?) been changed, the show managed to do this without stripping him or the Republic or the Rebellion of any complexity, so I will forgive them for it.

Diego Luna's acting is spectacular.  The way he uses facial expressions to characterize Andor, the emotion he puts into his lines, it's all so incredibly excellent, and serves to underscore the already brilliant dialogue and backstory.  I love how his expression conveys both his utter decisiveness when he kills someone, but also this mixture of shellshock and regret.  Killing for Andor may be a necessity, but it isn't something ever taken lightly.  Antonio Viña, who plays Cassian as a child, is also excellent.  Though all the other actors put in a brilliant performance too.  I feel like even a lot of the minor characters on this show who are introduced and die within two or three episodes are more richly  detailed than the main characters in other Star Wars shows.

The way this show handles politics is exquisite.  It manages to hint at the crimes of the Republic and show the moral compromise of the Rebellion without ever minimizing the uncompromising fascism of the Empire.  This is the Empire as evil as we've ever seen it, but evil in the very real way of exercising a stranglehold with its politics and military might, not via evil space wizards fighting with laser swords. Not that I don't love me some evil wizards with laser swords, but that isn't an evil I can take seriously.  I love the juxtaposition of the scenes showing the lavish environs of Mon Mothma and the senators with the Rebel fighters who have been 'living on roots for months'.  I love how this show handles Mon Mothma and her complexity as both a politician and an individual.  Also love the leftist infighting.  Love you Saw, great to see you again!

Also, Coruscant, my beloved!  You've returned!  And they said this show didn't have fanservice!

Not to mention the visuals and music are so hauntingly beautiful at times that I feel that even by themselves they raise the bar for Star Wars.

Anyway, I feel like I could write a whole book analyzing just these eight episodes.  I don't know where Andor will take us in the future, but it's got an amazing start.  This show feels like it was made to cater so specifically to my particular preferences I can hardly believe it exists, lol.

I really love what Star Trek Discovery did with the mirrorverse, and especially the Emperor.  Definitely one of my favorite characters of the show.  Also the mirrorverse plot isn't just incidental, but is is actually an important element of the story.  I also enjoy DS9's mirrorverse, but Discovery's is definitely my favorite.

Another thing I love about Discovery is Saru, and the kelpians in general.  Besides the fact I just really enjoy a lot about the kelpians in and of themselves, the kelpians actually remind me a lot of muuns (except for being much better designed --looking at you, San Hill).  If they just had a longer head they'd look almost exactly how I imagine muuns should look.  Or at least a lot closer than anything George Lucas did for them.

In general the main characters have really grown on me, whereas I was initially unsure how they'd be handled.  But overall I've enjoyed seeing them develop over each season.  Michael Burnham is one constant in the show, as she's the main character, though her arc has been far from static.  I think this also reflects the story, which is very dynamic itself.  Michael also has the most mother figures of any character I've seen.  Sometimes a character has a complicated relationship with her (non-biological) father, her brother, and her four mothers.  Okay, maybe that's just Michael.

Also the Mudd time loop episode is hilarious.

Last night I finished watching Steven Universe Future.  I really enjoyed the series.  I also really like how the complete collection boxed set is designed like a scrapbook.

I think Steven Universe Future is such a nice epilogue for the series.  And it has enough episodes (2 disks of them) to really ask some interesting questions about what happens after the big fight is over.

Just finished watching Steven Universe: The Movie.  Spinel's scythe weapon really very strongly reminds me of a lightsaber.  It could totally work as a Sith lightsaber design.  It's also definitely 1000% cooler-looking than the taser-type weapons the gems use against each other.

One of my favorite episodes of Steven Universe is Lion 4: Alternate Ending. It's the one where he tries to figure out what his destiny is by 'decoding' his mother's videotape.Spoilers... )

This episode is about Pearl losing her phone...inside her own gem.  Bizarre and yet so incredibly relateable haha.

I am currently working on watching the rest of Steven Universe since I left off partway through when I was watching the series.  I really enjoy the whole 'musical sci-fi' aspect of this show a lot, not to mention all the different themes to think about.
