I've been eating a lot more fruit lately and while fruit unfortunately is quite variable in quality, I find that I enjoy a good piece of fruit more than most candy.  Which doesn't mean I'm going to stop eating candy, but I might end up being more selective about which candies I eat.  I'm already selective about candy, but I just can't justify buying something to eat primarily for its flavor if it doesn't taste as good as a health food to me lol.

I really like stewing apricots in a little water and sugar for a few minutes and then refrigerating them to chill them.  It's really simple and tasty.  Some fruits, like sand pears, taste sweet to me even without added sugar--I'm guessing those maybe have a higher sugar content than apricots.

I'll generally still eat fruit that's at its ideal ripeness fresh if it's unmarred, but I tend to prefer cooking overripe or scarred fruits before eating them.

Sand Pear

I cooked a sand pear in some water last night and enjoyed that quite a bit.  I did it because I was paranoid about the small gashes in the skin, so was trying to sterilize the fruit, but I also think I actually like it even better cooked.

I had a perfectly ripe mango today (technically yesterday) and I am still stunned by that exquisite experience.
